PublishMyTree is designed with privacy as a core principle. Your GEDCOM files are processed entirely in your browser. We never see your family data unless you explicitly choose to publish a site.

What we collect

When you preview (free)

Nothing. Your GEDCOM file is parsed client-side using JavaScript in your browser.
No data is uploaded to our servers during the preview.
No account is required.
We use basic, cookie-free analytics to count page views (no personal data).

When you publish a site

The generated HTML of your family site is stored on our servers so it can be accessed via the shareable URL.
This HTML contains the family data you chose to include: names, dates, places, and any photos you uploaded.
We do not extract, index, or analyze your family data. It is stored as a single HTML file.

When you pay

Payment is processed by Stripe. We never see or store your credit card details.
We receive your email address from Stripe for order confirmation and support.

Living persons

Our GEDCOM parser automatically detects living persons(no death event and born less than 120 years ago). We recommend reviewing your tree before publishing to ensure you're comfortable with what's shared.

Future versions will include automatic privacy controls for living persons, including the option to hide birth dates, places, and other identifying information.

Data storage and security

Published sites are stored on servers in the United States (via Vercel).
All data is transmitted over HTTPS (TLS 1.3).
We do not sell, share, or provide your data to third parties.

Your rights

Delete your site: Contact us and we will delete your published site and all associated data within 48 hours.
Data portability: Your published site is a standalone HTML file. You can download it at any time.
GDPR: If you are in the EU/EEA, you have the right to access, rectify, or erase your personal data. Contact us at privacy@publishmytree.com.

Cookies

PublishMyTree does not use tracking cookies. We may use essential cookies for functionality (such as remembering your theme preference). No third-party advertising or tracking cookies are used.

Children's privacy

Our service is not directed at children under 16. GEDCOM files may contain information about minors as part of family tree data. We recommend that users review their data and use privacy controls before publishing.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Significant changes will be communicated via our website. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision.
