Terms of Service

1. Service description

PublishMyTree (“the Service”) is a web application that converts GEDCOM genealogy files into interactive family tree websites. The Service is operated by Halvt Vargtjut Media (“we”, “us”, “our”).

2. Acceptable use

You agree to use the Service only for lawful purposes. You must not:

• Upload content that infringes on others' privacy rights or intellectual property
• Publish family data about living persons without their consent
• Use the Service to harass, defame, or harm others
• Attempt to reverse-engineer, scrape, or misuse the Service
• Upload malicious files or content

3. Your content

You retain all rights to the content you upload (GEDCOM files, photos, etc.). By publishing a site, you grant us a limited license to host and serve your generated HTML file to anyone with the link.

You are responsible for ensuring you have the right to share the information in your family tree, including personal data about living relatives.

4. Privacy of family data

Family trees contain sensitive personal information. You are responsible for obtaining appropriate consent from living family members before publishing their personal data (names, dates, places) on a public website.

5. Payments and refunds

• Family Site (€39 one-time): A one-time payment for permanent hosting of your family tree website.
• Family Archive (€9/month): A recurring subscription for premium features. Cancel anytime.
• 30-day money-back guarantee: If you're not satisfied, contact us within 30 days for a full refund.

Payments are processed by Stripe. We do not store your payment card details.

6. Service availability

We aim to keep published family sites available permanently, but we cannot guarantee 100% uptime. We will make reasonable efforts to maintain the service and notify users of any planned changes.

If we ever discontinue the Service, we will provide at least 90 days' notice and allow users to download their published sites as HTML files.

7. Limitation of liability

The Service is provided “as is” without warranties of any kind. We are not liable for any damages arising from your use of the Service, including but not limited to data loss, privacy breaches resulting from your publishing decisions, or service interruptions.

8. Intellectual property

The PublishMyTree name, logo, and website design are our intellectual property. Generated family tree websites include a “Made with PublishMyTree” footer link on the free and Family Site tiers. This may be removed on the Family Archive tier.

9. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service if you violate these terms. You may delete your published site at any time by contacting us.

10. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Sweden. Any disputes shall be resolved in the courts of Sweden.

11. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the new terms.
