How to Export a GEDCOM File from Gramps
Gramps is the most powerful free, open-source genealogy software. Here's how to export your tree for sharing.
About Gramps
Gramps(Genealogical Research ANd Management Programming System) is a free, open-source program available for Windows, Mac, and Linux. It's the choice of power users who want complete control over their data.
Export steps
- Open your family tree in Gramps.
- Go to Family Trees → Export.
- The Export Assistant will open. Click Next.
- Select GEDCOM as the export format. Click Next.
- Configure options:
- Character encoding — choose UTF-8 (recommended)
- Filter — export all people or a specific subset
- Privacy — optionally restrict living people's data
- Choose the file name and location. Click Next, then Apply.
Gramps Web users
If you use Gramps Web (the self-hosted web version), you can also export GEDCOM files directly from the web interface under Settings → Export.
